QU, Sultan Qaboos University to hold first international conference for scientific research management

Qatar University (QU), in co-operation with the Sultan Qaboos University, and Oman's ministry of higher education, scientific research and innovation, will hold the first international conference for scientific research management, from February 26-27, with the participation of experts from prestigious international universities and research centres.The conference, which is being hosted by the Sultan Qaboos University, seeks to direct scientific research towards finding solutions to society's problems, benefit from research results, in addition to expanding scientific research funding programmes, and spreading research culture among industrial institutions.It also aims to exchange best practices in scientific research management regionally and internationally, identify challenges and solutions and international practices to measure the quality of scientific research and its impact on society.During the two-day conference, participants will study the strategies of scientific research management and their efficiency in terms of centralisation and decentralisation.In a statement to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), QU Vice-President for Research and Graduate Studies Dr Mariam Ali al-Maadeed said the conference reflects the commitment of the QU and Sultan Qaboos University to employ the outputs of scientific research in developing society and promoting research and innovation in the implementation of economic and social development programmes in the region and the Arab world.She said that both academic institutions are known for the quality of their knowledge, scientific and research production at the regional and international levels.Dr al-Maadeed explained that one of the most important pillars of this co-operation between the two universities is the conferences and joint events, adding that by holding conferences such as the International Conference on Scientific Research Management, the institutions continue their steady growth in the fields of higher education and scientific research.She said that a joint committee has been formed to support research and innovative projects, and to facilitate scientific and cultural exchange in strategic fields, with the aim of supporting national and regional social and economic transformations.Dr al-Maadeed expressed confidence that this co-operation will have a significant impact on encouraging research, innovation and creativity in the region, and provide more opportunities for co-operation at the regional and international levels.She said that Sultan Qaboos University is an example of a successful regional partner since 2018, with the two universities having co-operated in financing 20 research projects through the International Research Collaboration Co-Fund (IRCC).
