Qatar won the chairmanship of the Technical Committee for Intellectual Property of the League of Arab States, during the committee's 10th meeting held recently at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Arab League in Cairo.
The Technical Committee for Intellectual Property is responsible for setting rules for cooperation between Arab countries in the field of protecting intellectual property rights, enhancing Arab awareness regarding intellectual property issues and encouraging innovation.
In this context, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) said in a statement Wednesday that members of the Technical Committee for Intellectual Property unanimously agreed to elect Director of the Intellectual Property Rights Protection department at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry Amna Jaber Al Kuwari to chair the committee for a period of two years.
The State of Qatar's chairmanship of the committee stems from the State's great keenness on intellectual property issues, as the members placed their trust in the State of Qatar in recognition of the progress it has achieved in this strategic field.
During its 10th meeting, the Committee discussed the recommendations of the 9th meeting held in February, and followed up on the implementation of the recommendations of the Sub-Committee on Industrial Property and the Sub-Committee on Copyright and Related Rights, as well as approving the launch of the regional network of technology and innovation support centres in the Arab region, as well as discussing the mechanisms for implementing the preparation of statistics and specific indicators of the reality of industrial property in Arab countries, and the mechanisms of preparing a study of the reality of copyright and related rights in Arab countries.
