QU, Tamuq co-organise materials science and engineering symposium

Qatar University (QU)'s Centre for Advanced Materials (CAM) and Texas A&M University at Qatar (Tamuq), a Qatar Foundation partner, recently organised the annual symposia related to materials science and technology in Qatar.The first Materials Science and Engineering Symposium, under the sponsorship of Qatar Petrochemical Company, was held under the title *Advances and Applications for Material Science and Engineering, to address different audiences, with a focus on materials research opportunities and collaboration with local industries and government organisations to resolve material-related issues.This year, more than 150 delegates participated in the symposium.The daylong symposium brought together experts from academic institutions, research centres, industry, and government organisations to discuss the latest advances in materials science and engineering.The 2023 symposium is in line with Qatar National Vision 2030’s aim to develop a sustainable and diversified knowledge-based economy by addressing challenges and opportunities associated with material waste.Tamuq chemical engineering professor Dr Ahmed Abdala, co-chair of the symposium, said: "It is absolutely crucial for different stakeholders to come together, and collaborate to find effective and efficient solutions. At the symposium, we showcased how immensely materials science and engineering can contribute to societal development.”CAM director Prof Mohamed Irshidat said, "The objective of this annual event is to promote dialogue and exchange of ideas among experts from various disciplines, as well as identify and address prospects for future interdisciplinary collaboration.”
