Two students from Qatar Scientific Club on Monday won the Best Innovator Award ( junior category) at the Future Science Challenge Competition for gifted students in the UAE.
Sara al-Dosary and Meera al-Kaabi won the trophy for their 'step towards safety' project — smart shoes equipped with sensors and GPS, which measures heartbeat and temperature and sends text messages to parents while wearing the shoes.
The project also includes a phone application for caregivers to track those who wear the shoes. The project's initial and final models were implemented at the Qatar Scientific Club's workshops and laboratories, under the supervision of the Club's engineers.
Deputy Executive Director of the Qatar Scientific Club Abdul Rahman Saleh Khamis hailed in a statement the Ministry of Sports and Youth-affiliated club's relentless support for students' innovative projects, and its annual competitions, to promote the potential of juniors.
The Qatar Scientific Club helps gifted students implement projects through well-equipped technical laboratories, and contributes to the implementation of the prototype with the highest quality standards with the help of specialised engineers, Khamis said.
He expressed appreciation to the winning students' families for their follow-up and encouragement. Held under the patronage of the Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation for Distinguished Academic Performance, it is an AI & IoT competitions platform that promotes multi-disciplinary learning for gifted and talented students within the field of science and technology.
The competition is committed to promoting innovation in science, technology and education, thereby inspiring young people to apply the knowledge in solving practical problems through the exciting and challenging competitions.
