Qatargas hosted Safety Day on February 12-13 at its Barzan Gas Facility, showcasing the company’s health, safety, environment and quality (HSE&Q) initiatives, achievements and programmes.
The two-day event was attended by Qatargas CEO Khalid bin Khalifa al-Thani, members of the senior management leadership team, a delegate from QatarEnergy, representatives of all shareholders, and employees of different departments and groups across the company.
First held in 2022, this annual event has now become a major opportunity to showcase the Qatargas HSE&Q initiatives and invite shareholder participation. It brings the company’s people together as one team to celebrate their commitment to an 'Incident and Injury Free' workplace.
Commenting on the event, Khalid bin Khalifa al-Thani said: “Safety Day clearly highlights our unwavering commitment to a robust safety culture at Qatargas, and it is an opportune moment to demonstrate our established and emerging HSE initiatives that keep us at the forefront of the LNG industry.”
Khalifa Ahmed al-Sulaiti, chief HSE&Q officer, said: “Our annual Safety Day event plays a key role in focusing attention on the vital contributions our various HSE&Q functions perform to keep our people safe every single day. It is also an exceptional opportunity to bring everyone together as one team to celebrate our collective achievements, knowledge, and expertise.”
The event this year drew a large crowd of more than 1,000 visitors who had the opportunity to experience first-hand some of the most innovative and industry-leading safety achievements, initiatives, and programmes undertaken across Qatargas.
With engagement from all HSE&Q departments, over 40 attractions were showcased live during the event. They included a quality-themed escape room competition, a crisis management command centre experience using AI technology, live coral tanks exhibited by the Environment and Regulatory Department, offshore lifesaving equipment, fire truck and super-sucker truck displays, and a 360° video booth to capture the memories of the day.
Shareholder representatives from ExxonMobil also demonstrated augmented and virtual reality safety applications and TotalEnergies showcased their drone technology for environmental surveillance.
