Malabar Gold & Diamonds conducted a blood donation drive in Qatar recently as part of its CSR (corporate social responsibility) activities.The main objective of the event, which was organised in association with the Blood Donor Centre at Hamad Medical Corporation, was to replenish the available supply of blood for the local population and to raise awareness regarding the importance of blood donation.The event, which was conducted at the Malabar Gold & Diamonds outlet in Barwa Village, witnessed a good turnout.A total of 56 donors – members of the general public and employees of Malabar Gold & Diamonds – generously donated their blood.The donation units, which were provided by Hamad hospital, included four stations, and all donors were subjected to a preliminary medical test prior to their donation, a press statement noted."Malabar Gold & Diamonds has always been at the forefront when it comes to serving the society through the numerous CSR activities that we carry out throughout the year in every region of operations,” the statement said."Although the blood donation was open to members of the public, our employees led from the front, as out of the 56 donors, 24 were Malabar Gold & Diamonds employees,” it added. "Through their noble actions, we have set an example for the general public and other companies.”"The social benefits and health benefits of regular blood donations, including a reduction in cardiovascular risk factors, is widely known and established,” the statement continued."We sincerely thank Hamad hospital for their support and hope to conduct another blood donations drive in the near future,” said Malabar Gold & Diamonds regional head (Qatar) Santhosh T V. "We would also like to request likeminded companies in Qatar to regularly conduct such activities to contribute towards the wellbeing of the general public and to ensure sufficient quantity of blood is available in the blood banks.”As part of its CSR initiatives, Malabar Gold & Diamonds organises blood donation drives periodically in different parts of India, the GCC, the Far East and the US with the support of authorised blood banks.They associate with likeminded organisations and undertake welfare activities in their regions of operations, primarily in areas such as health, education, environment, housing and women's empowerment.
