Qatar has praised the agreement reached between Iran and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), calling for the continuation of dialogue between the two sides to resolve outstanding issues in the Iranian nuclear programme.
This came in a statement delivered by HE the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr Ahmed bin Hassan al-Hammadi, before the session of the Board of Governors of the IAEA, being held in Vienna.
HE said that the recent successful visit of IAEA director general Rafael Grossi to Tehran, and the joint statement issued by IAEA and Iran, laid the foundation for subsequent steps to facilitate broader co-operation between the two sides in order to expedite resolving the remaining guarantees issues.
He praised the significant role played by the IAEA in promoting the peaceful use of nuclear energy and the tireless efforts of its director general, especially his recent visit to Tehran, and the response of officials in the Islamic Republic of Iran in this regard.
He stressed that joint work, the spirit of co-operation and positive interaction between the agency and Iran, through full respect for the agency's mandate and the rights and obligations of Iran, is the irreplaceable way to resolve all outstanding issues and prepare the technical requirements for resuming work on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
He voiced Qatar's hope that the positive momentum generated by the recent visit of the IAEA director-general to Tehran would be an incentive for expediting technical meetings to implement what was agreed upon and allow resolving outstanding issues, enhancing transparency and rebuilding trust as soon as possible.
Qatar strongly encourages all countries to support this new direction in the relationship between the IAEA and Iran in order to reach a permanent solution to all the problems that hindered the implementation of previous agreements and to create an appropriate technical and political ground for resuming the comprehensive action plan, he said pointing out that it is considered to be an important international mechanism in the non-proliferation regime.
HE Dr al-Hammadi affirmed that, over the past years, Qatar has made every possible effort to bridge the views of the parties to the JCPOA, and will continue this endeavour in the future, relying on the positive results of the recent visit of the IAEA director-general to Iran. (QNA)
