The Doha English Speaking School (DESS) squad bagged the second place overall in the U11 BSME games in Muscat, Oman. This is the first time DESS has competed in BSME since 2017 and it was the first major competition for the young team, a statement said. The DESS team competed in netball, basketball, swimming, football and athletics.
“We saw a phenomenal display of talent, but were also privileged to see our boys and girls rise to the challenge in tough conditions against some strong teams. For many of the students this was their first overseas trip without their families and they showed enormous grit and tenacity, working as a team to support one another during a gruelling competition,” it was explained.
“We are immensely proud to say that out of eight schools competing we achieved an overall second place finish. A huge thank you to our coaches who motivated and inspired the children to hold their heads high throughout the ups and downs of the tournament.
“Thank you for your dedication and commitment. This was an experience the team will always remember and it has given them a strong foundation for independence and teamwork. Not forgetting our parent supporters who travelled to Oman for the weekend to cheer us on. Thank you and well done to everyone.”
