HE the Minister of Public Health Dr Hanan Mohamed al-Kuwari is among the four healthcare leaders from Qatar named among the Forbes Middle East Top 100 Healthcare Leaders for 2023.
HE Dr al-Kuwari is ranked No. 3 on the list. The others from Qatar in the top 100 are CEO of Medicare Group (MCGS) Khalid al-Emadi (43), CEO of Sidra Medicine Dr Iyabo Tinubu-Karch (58) and managing director of Naseem Healthcare Mohamed Miandad V P (66).
HE Dr al-Kuwari has been recognised for her role as the managing director of Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC).
She joined HMC in 1996 and was appointed managing director in 2007, the Forbes website says. "In January 2023, HMC co-operated with Qatar BioBank to launch phase one of the Tissue Biobank Service to collect, process, and distribute human tissue samples for research purposes. It also signed an MoU with Qatar Red Crescent Society to fund and support HMC’s future projects. HE al-Kuwari is also Qatar’s Minister of Public Health and sits on several boards, including for the Academic Health System International Advisory Board and Sidra Medicine. She previously worked at the World Health Organisation."
Al-Emadi has been at the helm of MCGS since 2013. MCGS establishes special hospitals and outpatient clinics, including nutrition specialist Hemya, home nursing company Re’aya, physical therapy company Enaya, and the Wakra branch of the Al-Ahli Hospital Clinic.
MCGS recorded $15.4mn in net profit during the first nine months of 2022, compared to $14.7mn in the same period of 2021, according to Forbes.
Al-Emadi previously worked at Qatar’s Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs and has sat on the boards at Al Jazeera Finance and Qatar Finance House, among others.
Tinubu-Karch assumed her current role in December 2022. Sidra participated in the Precision Medicine World Conference in January 2023. Tinubu-Karch was previously a non-executive board member at Sidra Medicine and had an advisory role on the management committee. She is also the founder and CEO of 6M Geriatrics and Hospital Medicine. Sidra Medicine works closely with its academic partner Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar and other health and research institutions like Hamad Medical Corporation and Qatar Biobank to raise the standard of healthcare in the country and provide opportunities for research and learning.
Miandad has been leading Naseem Healthcare since 2011, which is a subsidiary of 33 Holdings. It provides medical services through seven medical centres and five pharmacies. In 2022, Naseem Healthcare launched its surgical centre and announced the launch of Naseem Humans, the CSR arm of Naseem Healthcare. Miandad is also the chairman and managing director of 33 Holdings, which employs more than 1,000 people.
