More than 1,600 students representing 160 government and private schools across the country are taking part in the 15th edition of the Schools' Robotics Championship which began yesterday at Lusail Multipurpose Hall.
The three-day event is organised by Qatar Scientific Club, under the Ministry of Sports and Youth, in co-operation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
The opening ceremony was attended by HE Dr Ibrahim bin Saleh al-Nuaimi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and Abdulrahman Musallam al-Dosari, advisor to HE the Minister of Sports and Youth, and a number officials from both ministries.
In his introduction message for the championship booklet, HE the Minister of Sports and Youth Salah bin Ghanim bin Nasser al-Ali stressed that the ministry recognises the young people' s effective role in the society and their keenness to assume responsibilities.
In her remarks for the championship booklet, HE the Minister of Education and Higher Education Buthaina bint Ali al-Jabr al-Nuaimi stressed that the event carries an extensive educational heritage that enhances its competitive status.
She pointed the championship plays a key role in encouraging the innovation and creativity of students, driving them to go beyond the usual ways of exploration.
Engineer Rashid al-Rahimi, executive director of Qatar Scientific Club and head of the supreme organising committee of the championship, pointed out that such events prepare a generation capable of competition and ready for the future jobs that mostly depend on advanced modern technology, robots and Artificial Intelligence.
The number of participating teams in this edition has increased by 50% compared to the previous edition and the number of participating students increased by 30%, he added.
