The Department of Da’wah and Religious Guidance at the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs held a symposium on Imam’s duties and his role as a preacher.The symposium was attended by more than 150 imams and preachers from Awqaf’s mosques across Qatar. Sheikh Dr Ahmed Saeed al-Foudei made the keynote address at the symposium, explaining the purposes of the imamate, prayer, and congregational prayer. He also explained the purposes of the Friday sermon.Sheikh Dr al-Foudei, a preacher at the Awqaf ministry, dealt with an introduction to the science of purposes and what is meant by it and its importance, and talked about the virtue of the imam.He also dealt with the practical application of the jurisprudence of the purposes in the imamate, prayer, congregational prayer and worship, beginning with the purposes of building mosques, in which the land is built and endowed to achieve the servitude of God, and the purposes of the call to prayer and matters related to performing the acts of worship.Dr Ahmed al-Farjabi, preacher and educational adviser at the Da’wah Department, spoke about the significance of Friday and the Friday prayer, referring to the definition of Friday sermon and its purposes to consolidate the foundations of faith, to establish belief, to correct concepts, to respond to suspicions, to call for reform and to clarify acts of worship, rulings and lawful things.The symposiums are held within Awqaf’s Pathways and Beacons Programmes with the aim of helping preachers deliver their message and discharge their duties.
