The US Senate passed a resolution to end the national emergency declaration that was announced three years ago by former President Donald Trump at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. The Washington Post said that although House Democrats overwhelmingly voted against the measure in February, Senate Democrats moved ahead with it on Wednesday. This vote came after US President Joe Biden informed Congress in January that the national emergency would end in May.The Senate passed the resolution under the Congressional Review Act, which allows Congress to overturn rules by federal agencies through a simple majority vote, by a vote of 68-23.The national emergency was initially declared in the US in January 2020, when the pandemic began. It has been renewed every three months since then.
