Liwan Design Studios and Labs to host 'Liwan for Good'

Liwan Design Studios and Labs, a leading coworking space for creatives in Doha, has announced its upcoming event, 'Liwan for Good', on April 4 from 8.30pm to 12.30am at Liwan Design Studios and Labs.
'Liwan for Good' is a special charity event celebrating the holy month of Ramadan. A community-orientated event, it aims to bring together local charities and businesses for an evening of giving. As a creative space in the heart of the city, Liwan invites Qatar's burgeoning design community and the public to join hands and positively impact the world.
Housed in a historic mid-century building in Downtown Mshereib, Liwan is in an imaginatively repurposed historic building that was once the first school for girls in Qatar, founded by education pioneer Amna Mahmoud al-Jaida. The original school, named Banat El Doha, opened in the late 1950s, and over the years, it was renamed Umm Almo'mneen Primary School.
Led by multidisciplinary Qatari designer Aisha bint Nasser al-Sowaidi as its director, Liwan provides designers who join as members with state-of-the-art labs for pottery, leatherworking, digital photography and prototyping, as well as private and shared studios, giving them the resources needed to advance their work. It addresses the need to create a pool of resources and provides flexible access to members alongside a curated space for locally based designers.
'Liwan for Good' is a testament to Liwan's commitment to community engagement and social responsibility. With a spectacular light performance by artist and calligrapher Karim Jabbari, the evening will also feature local creatives and businesses from Qinwan and A'Lhanout, whose products will be on sale for charity, and henna artist Rabab Abdulla. Local entities such as the Ministry of Social Development and Family, Qatar Charity, Education Above All Foundation, and cats_etecetra will also sell homemade and hand-crafted products. All proceeds from these sales will go to their respective charities, and payment is through cash only.

In addition to providing resources for its members, Liwan offers a robust schedule of public programmes to raise awareness of local and global design thinking and practices. Programming includes heritage tours about the history of the building and featured events such as talks, workshops, dinners, exhibitions, film screenings and networking opportunities.
