Qatar Philatelic and Numismatic Centre (QPNC) of the Ministry of Culture held on Friday the 24th Ramadan auction for coins and stamps, with the participation of collectors from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, Egypt and Lebanon. The auction featured 258 items and sets including stamps, postcards, medals and envelopes from Qatar, the GCC as well as Arab countries.
Director of QPNC Hussein Rajab al-Ismael told QNA that the auction is one of the centre's outstanding activities, pointing to the wide participation of collectors from the Gulf and Arab countries and the large variety of auctioned items. In addition to the auction, activities and participation in exhibitions and festivals, the centre includes the permanent exhibition of stamps and currencies in Sheikh Saud bin Muhammad bin Ali Al-Thani Hall, and it showcases all Qatari issues of stamps and currencies since 1950 until now, al-Ismael said. He added that the permanent exhibition also showcases the centre's participation in the cultural events associated with the country's hosting of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, and the Darb AL Saai festivities of the Qatar National Day.
The Qatar Philatelic and Numismatic Centre aims to foster and spread the hobby of collecting stamps and coins, work to improve it, and create conditions for its members to develop this hobby by organising exhibitions, auctions, in addition to the local and external participations.
