Al Wakra Municipality's Health Control Section carried out 1,265 field inspection tours targeting various food facilities and outlets in its jurisdiction during March, resulting in the closing of five outlets including three meat shops, a restaurant and a bakery. Besides, 22 violation reports were issued according to law no 8 for 1990 on the regulation of human food control.
While 29 of these were resolved in reconciliation after paying the fines, five were referred to the security entities concerned to take the necessary procedures against the violators. The section received 17 related complaints and treated them accordingly. The veterinary team at the section supervised the slaughtering of 30,923 heads of livestock that included sheep, camels and cows at Al Wakra Automated Slaughterhouse.
A total of 365 carcasses were destroyed in addition to 8,756kg of meat for being unsuitable for human consumption. While 41,500kg of fish were examined at Al Wakra Fish market, 22kg were destroyed. A total of 28 different samples of food products were sent to the central laboratory. At Al Wakra Central Market, 106,060kg of desert truffles were examined and 4,670kg destroyed.
