Qatar University (QU) has honored the winners of the 5th Youth Research Forum 2023, in the presence of HE the Minister of Education and Higher Education Buthaina Bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi and HE Qatar University President Dr. Hassan Al Derham.

Young Scientists Center (YSC) concluded the Fifth Youth Research Forum 2023 in March of this year, under the theme 'High education institutions and their role in achieving sustainable development goals,' amid local and foreign youth participation.

This cycle of the Youth Research Forum had a wider range of participants from 16 countries, as the forum started to receive abstracts since June 2022, and managed to receive (276) abstracts, (186) of them were accepted, and (36) research papers and research posters qualified for the forum.

In first place for best poster is a group from the QU College of Dental Medicine, for their research named 'Association between oral health and gastric cancer: A systematic review.'

The winner for second place for best poster was awarded to a group from the QU College of Engineering, and College of Education, for their research entitled 'Assessment Models used in Informal STEM Learning.'

The third place for best poster went to Maria Nazir, from Pakistan, for her research 'Brain Tumor Analysis of Gliomas with Uncertainty Estimation in MRI Images.'

The winner for best research was awarded to Tasneem El Sayed and her research 'Design, Synthesis and Molecular Modeling of Quinazoline Derivatives as a Dual Kinase Inhibitors Targeting EGFR and VEGFR-2.'

The Second place for best research went to Zahra Al Mahrooqi, Sultan Qaboos University, for her research 'Effects of Microplastic on the Intestinal and Liver Tissues and Gut Microbiome in Rats.'

In third place for best research is Elyas Al Subhi, Omar Al Salmi and Aahid Al Hadrami from the Sultan Qaboos University, for their research entitled 'Innovative Approach for Recovering Waste Heat of Vehicle Exhaust Gases into Power for Cooling Applications.'

Commenting on the forum, Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies at QU Mariam Al Maadeed said that Higher education institutions have the most important and leading role in development and scientific research, given that they are the highest educational institutions with capabilities and resources such as their strong infrastructure and facilities, as well as their researchers and experts in various fields.

She affirmed QU's keenness to support all initiatives and strategies that put Qatar at the forefront of countries in many respects.

Al Maadeed added that the Youth Research Forum shed light on Qatar University, its research production, and its achievements in creating effective solutions to the challenges facing the local and global communities.

For her part, Director of Qatar University Young Scientists Center Prof. Noora Jabor Al-Thani said that the center is always seeking to support and provide opportunities to students from all over the world to share their research and findings with experts and researchers at Qatar University, in a way that enhances their experiences and develops their skills and knowledge.

This year's edition of the forum dealt with the topics of the quality of higher education as one of the sustainable development goals and a way to consolidate its concepts, the theme of legal legislation aimed at consolidating the concepts of sustainable development and achieving its goals, and the scientific research theme as a means to consolidate concepts and achieve the sustainable development goals.
