Faesal al-Yafei took a comfortable victory in the third round of the Qatar Karting Championship as Qatari drivers swept the podium. At the Lusail Circuit Sports Club (LCSC) Karting Track, al-Yafei finished the 17-lap race in 17:51.609 secs for his first victory of the season, having had to settle for podium places in the last two rounds.
Bader al-Sulaiti, who had won the opening round, took the runner-up spot 4.575 secs adrift al-Yafei, while Taha Hassiba rounded out the podium places. The drivers were tested with a new track layout, which made for some interesting contest.
With two rounds remaining, al-Sulaiti tops the championship leaderboard with 53 points, just a point ahead of al-Yafei. Hassiba is third with 40 points.
More than 40 competitors – mainly from the Qatar Motorsports Academy –are taking part in the inaugural Qatar Karting Championship.
The five-leg series will take a break now, with the fourth round scheduled for April 25 and 26, while the fifth and final round to be held on May 2 and 3.
