Qatar's Eid al-Fitr celebrations began with several activities and festivities at various locations around the country.
Some of the prominent venues for festivities were the Cultural Village Foundation Katara, Souq Waqif, Al Wakra Souq, several malls across the country among others.
The events on the first day of Eid included fireworks, music band, Eid competitions, a show by the Qatar Police Band and several other programmes at different locations.
Activities at Katara began Friday at 4pm and lasted until 10pm with a large number of visitors attending the events and expressing their joy and happiness.
The public enjoyed the performances of the musical band at Al Hekma Hall. The band presented some masterpieces of the Arabic heritage. This was coupled with an enthralling dancing water fountain display. Besides, there was an highly entertaining questions and answers session for the public.
At 8.30pm, the audience entered a new futuristic world with the theatrical play "World 2030", where a group of children go through a fantastic and fascinating journey into the future to learn about the importance of science and knowledge in developing society. The play concluded with the grand dream of the Qatar Vision 2030 to create a sustainable and clean environment that covers all walks of life.
Eidya (Eid gifts) was distributed to children at the Katara Corniche. The elegant gifts for children from Katara were wrapped in a beautiful manner providing much joy and happiness to children. The distribution of Eidya, which began at 6.30pm until 7pm and from 7.30pm until 8.10pm, was extremely popular with families.
The Police Musical Troupe that include 85 skilled musicians and players performed at the Katara Corniche from 6.15pm until 6.35 pm and then again from 7pm until 7.20pm.
The best Eid dress or costume competition for children under 15 years was launched Friday, and is set to continue throughout the first three days of the holiday period.
To participate, a high quality photo of the participant wearing Eid clothes should be sent to the number 33160949. Accordingly, 10 winners will be selected.
The Katara Corniche was lit up with a dazzling fireworks display from 8.15pm. Visitors enjoyed the show and expressed their admiration for the amazing colourful formations.
Visitors were also highly appreciative of the entertainment programmes at Katara and considered these as prime family destination during the holidays.
