Veteran Malayalam actor Mamukkoya, who was under treatment at a private hospital in Kozhikode, Kerala, India, died yesterday after suffering a heart attack. He was 76. The actor had collapsed during a football tournament in Kerala’s Malappuram district earlier this week.
The actor was rushed to the hospital in Wandoor on Monday night. Later, he was moved to a private hospital in Kozhikode where his condition worsened following brain haemorrhage.
According to sources the hugely-popular actor was responding to medicines and was under observation, but his health condition deteriorated.
Family members were then informed that the actor’s condition was worsening and he was put on a ventilator.
Following his death, messages poured in on social media from actors and fans expressing grief and conveying their condolences.
The actor got his first break in 1979 and began his acting career in the theatre. Later, he graduated to cinema. In his more than four-decade-long career, Mamukkoya featured in over 450 Malayalam films. He has also been a recipient of two state awards. He also became the first-ever comedian in Malayalam cinema to win the Kerala State Film Award in 2015.
