Qatar clinched three more gold medals on the final day to wrap up the West Asia Athletics Championship on top of the medal table at Suheim Bin Hamad Stadium yesterday.
Femi Ogunode, who won the 100m gold on opening day, secured his second gold clocking 20.70 secs in the men’s 200m race. Saudi Arabia’s Abdulaziz (20.98) and Lebanon’s Nooruddin Hadeed (21.18) completed the podium.
Abdurrahman Saeed handed Qatar victory in men’s 1,500m completing the race in 3:42.79 secs with his teammate Musab Adam (3:43.65) earning a silver medal, followed by Saudi Arabia’s Faez al-Sabiyi (3:44.63). Ahmad Amjad al-Saifi claimed second gold of the day for Al Annabi clearing a distance of 67.87m in men’s hammer throw. Khaleel Badwi secured bronze for the hosts in the event with a throw of 62.28m with Kuwait’s Ali Zankwi (66.61) taking silver medal. Also, Yasser Salem (14:16.47) won silver medal in men’s 5,000m race while Samar Raza won bronze medal for Qatar in women’s heptathlon.
