Tunisian President Kais Saied inaugurated the 37th edition of the Tunis International Book Fair (TIBF) on Friday, held under the slogan 'Fly... with the Book’s Wings', in the presence of a number of ambassadors of Arab and other countries, local daily Arabic Arrayah reports. The book fair will continue until May 7.
Some 279 exhibitors from more than 20 countries are participating in the event: Tunisia, Qatar, Egypt, Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Mauritania, Syria, Lebanon, Kuwait, Jordan, Sudan, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Turkiye, Iran, France, Senegal, Sweden, Hungary and Ireland. Besides, Russia and Italy are participating for the first time.
Katara - the Cultural Village Foundation is the guest of honour at TIBF 2023, in addition to Iraq.
On this occasion, HE Prof Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti, General Manager of Katara, presented President Saied with a copy of the book, 'Diving for Pearls in Qatar'.
The TIBF includes 128 Tunisian exhibitors, 124 exhibitors from other Arab countries, 24 foreign exhibitors and three pavilions for non-governmental organisations. During the opening day, the winners of the literary and intellectual creativity awards were announced at an official ceremony hosted by the Tunisian Academy of Sciences, Literature and Arts, 'House of Wisdom' in Carthage.
