The Indian Cultural Centre (ICC), under the aegis of the embassy of India, conducted the inaugural ICC Wednesday Fiesta on May 3.
The Fiesta is a weekly cultural event of the vibrant Indian community residing in Qatar.
The inaugural event was held at Ashoka Hall of ICC. A quality display of thematic performances by different groups captivated the large audience that was in attendance, a press statement noted.
Mohan Kumar, ICC general secretary, welcomed the guests and dignitaries. A P Manikantan, in his presidential speech, explained that the intention of the weekly festival is to give a performance stage to the large Indian diaspora residing in Qatar, represented by various affiliated organisations of the Indian Cultural Centre, institutes and schools, and for the entire community to come together and witness and enjoy a rich Indian cultural heritage.
Sumaa Mahesh Gowda, head of cultural activities at ICC, co-ordinated the event proceedings. Subramanya Hebbagelu, ICC vice-president, gave the vote of thanks.
Angeline Premalatha, chargé d'affaires of the Indian embassy, was the chief guest at the event. Lt Abdul Aziz al-Mohannadi from the Awareness Section, Community Policing Department, was the guest of honour.
The event was graced by the presence of Dr K M Bahauddeen, community co-ordinator at the Community Policing Department; Xavier Dhanaraj, coordinating officer and first secretary (Consular, Passport, Visa & Community Affairs) at the embassy of India; Padma Kari, first secretary (Political & Information) at the embassy of India; and Satheesh Pillai, chairman of the ICC Advisory Council.
Moving forward, ICC Wednesday Fiesta will be conducted every Wednesday at the ICC Ashoka Hall from 7pm. The ICC Managing and Advisory Committee has extended its invitation to the entire Indian diaspora residing in Qatar to attend this gathering every week.
