The British embassy in Doha, in partnership with Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra (QPO), marked the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla through ‘Music From the Coronation’, a musical celebration that took place at Qatar National Convention Centre on May 4.
In attendance were senior Qatari officials, members of the British, Qatari and the wider community, the diplomatic corps and international business and government.
British ambassador to Qatar Jon Wilks said, "We are delighted to partner with Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra in this musical celebration. Coronations of British monarchs over the centuries have witnessed the commissioning of outstanding pieces of music of splendour and celebration. The coronation service blends the traditional and the new often using the great music commissioned for previous coronations as well as the favourite composers of the monarchs themselves. The music for our celebration has been chosen from this great archive of masterpieces.
"This is a time of national celebration in the United Kingdom and globally across the Commonwealth and the Anglican Communion. The Coronation service in its sacred essence draws on over a thousand years of tradition, modified and adapted for the world of today, a cause for a celebration for people from all over the UK, the Commonwealth and the world’.
Kurt Meister, executive director to QPO, said: "It was an honour and a privilege for the Qatar Philharmonic to partner with the British embassy in Doha on this special event celebrating an incredibly momentous occasion in British history."
