On the occasion of the 100th Anniversary of the National Leader of Azerbaijan, Heydar Aliyev, the Embassy of Azerbaijan in co-operation with Qatar Ministry of Municipality's 'Planting 10 million trees' initiative, Monday organised a ceremony for planting 100 trees at the Old Airport Park in Doha.
Muhammad Ali al-Khoury, director of the Public Parks Department of the Ministry of Municipality and Secretary General of Qatar Horticultural Expo 2023 represented the Qatari side at the ceremony. Heads of 27 diplomatic missions accredited in Qatar, officials from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, representatives of Doha Municipality and the Municipality of the Airport Park district joined the event.
At the outset National Anthems of both countries were performed by students of a Qatari primary school. In his welcoming speech, the ambassador of Azerbaijan Mahir Aliyev briefed the guests about the personality of Heydar Aliyev who made an invaluable contribution to the establishment and development of the modern democratic Azerbaijan and thus has become a National Leader of Azerbaijan.
He pointed out that with the aim to perpetuate the National Leader’s memory on the occasion of the 100th anniversary also in Qatar, the embassy took the initiative to plant 100 trees in Doha in solidarity with the 'Planting 10 million trees' initiative implemented in Qatar.
The envoy expressed his gratitude to the Qatari side and especially to the leadership of the Ministry of Municipality for supporting the idea and the implementation of this project.
