The Department of Islamic Research and Studies of the Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs held a symposium on “Zakat and Development” in celebration of the 14th Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah Al-Thani International Endowment Prize with the presence of HE the Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs Ghanem bin Shaheen al-Ghanem.
Head of the Department of Fiqh and Usul Al Fiqh at the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies at Qatar University, Dr Salih Qadir al-Zanki, presented a paper on *Operationalising Legitimate Issues in Contemporary Reality at the symposium.
Yemeni researcher Dr Fayez Yahya Shubail, who won the prize, presented a paper on “Zakat and Development”, in which he described the significant impact of Zakat on development and the economy.
At the conclusion of his paper, he highlighted his study's development of a strategic plan and future vision for zakat funds, called the "Zakat system”.
