Guyana’s president, Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali, is inviting Qatari investors and businessmen to invest in the South American country’s oil and gas, infrastructure, tourism, services, hospitality, and agriculture sectors.Ali made the statement during a meeting with Qatar Chamber first vice-chairman Mohamed bin Towar al-Kuwari Monday in Doha, where both officials discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations in the economic and commercial fields.During the meeting, Ali and al-Kuwari discussed the investment climate and opportunities available in both countries and the role of the private sector in increasing trade exchange.The president said the private sector on both sides can play a leading role in enhancing and expanding the cooperation relations between Guyana and Qatar, noting that there are a host of opportunities in different sectors, especially in energy and food security.Ali emphasised that Qatar is attaching great importance to food security, stressing that Guyana offers a multitude of opportunities in this sector, where Qataris can invest in producing grains, rice, poultry, meat, and other food products.He stressed Guyana’s interest in developing economic and commercial cooperation with Qatar and attracting investors to benefit from the country’s incentives for foreign investors. Ali also noted that his accompanying delegation includes a number of businessmen specialising in various sectors like agriculture, real estate, and tourism.Al-Kuwari, who lauded the relations between Qatar and Guyana, expressed his gratitude to Ali for meeting with Qatar Chamber officials and representatives of the Qatari private sector.He said the Qatari investors are interested in the investment opportunities available in Guyana, noting that Qatar Chamber is supporting and encouraging Qataris to expand their investments in friendly countries, such as Guyana.Al-Kuwari said Ali’s visit to Qatar would contribute to enhancing cooperation relations between both sides at all levels, especially at the level of the private sector, noting that it also would help increase trade volume and mutual investments between both sides.He added that Qatar Chamber and the private sector highly welcome the opportunity to enhance cooperation with Guyana by forging commercial alliances and investments that are advantageous for both countries’ economies.
