The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) celebrated the conclusion of the 4th session of Reading Olympiad and the 7th session of Arab Reading Challenge initiative, under the slogan 'A Nation Reads – Qatar Reads', in the presence of HE the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Dr Ibrahim bin Saleh al-Nuaimi.
Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Affairs Maha Zayed al-Ruwaili and Assistant Undersecretary for Private Schools Affairs Omar al-Naama honoured the winners of the Olympiad.
Sara al-Nuaimi, the director of Mohamed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Initiatives, the organiser of the Arab Reading Challenge, and Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Higher Education Affairs Dr Khalid Abdullah al-Ali crowned the winners of the Arab Reading Challenge as well as the "Read and Express" competition within the 4th Reading Olympiad and honoured the students participating in the students' work exhibition.
Director of the MoEHE’s Department of Curricula and Learning Resources Dr Abdullah Al Marri expressed his great pride in the participation of all public and private schools in the "Read and Express" competition, an internal qualifying stage in which 1,700 male and female students qualified to compete in the "Read" competition at the level of schools in Qatar, while 775 male and female students qualified for the stage of the "Express" competition.
Later, 103 students qualified to participate in the final qualifiers for the Arab Reading Challenge initiative.
Sara al-Nuaimi praised the level of participation from students of Qatar in the seventh session, appreciating the great efforts made by 3,400 male and female supervisors and the participation of more than 124,000 students in the reading competition, which is the largest of its kind in Arabic language with 297 schools.
She pointed to Qatar's achievement in spreading the culture of reading among students in particular and citizens in general and to the position enjoyed by the Arab Reading Challenge initiative.
