The Fire Station: Artists’ Residence inaugurated yesterday 'Free Spirits of Wild Horses'” an exhibition by artist Eduardo Navarro in partnership with the Embassy of Panama. The exhibition will run until June 17, 2023 at Gallery 4.
The one-of-a-kind exhibition showcases Navarro's rebellious work, featuring paintings that showcase his unique approach using multiple media to express his dynamic energy on canvas, a Qatar Museums (QM) statement explained.
"His artwork was known for its spiritual and supernatural power, capturing wild horses roaming freely with implied movements and turbulent colours, without limits or restrictions. His work is known to draw viewers in with its fierce and captivating personalities, bringing audiences back to the 20th century work of Francis Bacon.
"After Navarro won the 1994 Gilberto Abendaneo Alzatti Foundation's August Salon International Award in Bogota, one of the most prestigious awards in Colombia, his career was steadily progressing, and in 2019 he was invited to participate in the Residency Unlimited program in Brooklyn, New York, where a new concept arose under the name “ cocoons".
On the occasion of this co-operation between the Embassy of Panama and the Fire Station: Artists' Residence, Musa Asfat, ambassador of Panama to Qatar, said: "Navarro is considered one of the most prolific painters, sculptors and visual artists of Panama. The exhibition expresses his lifelong deep relationship with horses, but also embodies the same passion he shares with Qatar's cultural identity. I urge everyone to visit the Fire Station and check out Eduardo's captivating work."
Khalifa Ahmed al-Obaidly, director of the Fire Station, said: “As a space dedicated to promoting contemporary art, the Fire Station is honored to support the art community in Qatar and provide a platform for international artists to showcase their talent. We invite everyone to join us at the Fire Station to explore Navarro's compelling work and celebrate the rich diversity of arts and culture in our community."
Expressing his excitement for showing his latest collection at the Fire Station, Navarro said: “Since my childhood, horses have held a special place in my heart, and I have always been fascinated by their strength, nobility, speed, presence, loyalty, tenacity and endurance. It gives me great pleasure to present my latest exhibition, The Free Spirits of Wild Horses, at Doha Fire Station, where horses embody a vibrant synergy that reflects the strong cultural ties between Qatar and Latin America.”
