Al Sadd have signed Brazilian left-back Paulo Otavio from German club Wolfsburg on a free transfer, the 16-time QNB Stars League champions announced on Wednesday.
The 28-year-old has signed three-year deal at Sadd, who after a trophy-less season are set to ring in many changes.
Otavio, who spent four seasons at Wolfsburg, last month announced his decision to leave the Bundesliga club. Otavio has been a regular for Wolfsburg this season, registering five assists for the side as they push for a top six finish that would bring European football next season.
Otavio had been subject of interest from host of clubs, including Mallorca, CSKA Moscow and Burley, who were promoted to Premier League recently. But Sadd seemed to have made a swift move for the Brazilian and agreed a deal.
Otavio – who played his last match for Wolfsburg after incurring an ankle injury last month – noted that it was not a decision he took lightly in a statement released by the club. “My time in Wolfsburg and saying goodbye is really not easy for me,” the left-back is quoted as saying on the club’s website. “VfL has given me the opportunity to establish myself at the highest level in the Bundesliga. I thank those responsible for the trust they have placed in me and wish the club every success for the future.”
