Qatar is participating in the meetings of the 76th session of the World Health Assembly (WHA), and in several accompanying meetings and events, which will be held in Geneva, Switzerland, from May 21-30.
The State of Qatar's delegation to the meetings is headed by HE Minister of Public Health Dr Hanan Mohammed Al Kuwari.
The main theme of this year's World Health Assembly is 'WHO 75 Years of: Saving Lives, Advancing Health for All.' The assembly meetings will address several important topics under the four pillars of WHO: ensuring that one billion more people benefit from universal health coverage, that one billion more people enjoy greater health and well-being, that one billion more people are better protected from health emergencies, and that WHO is more efficient in providing support to countries.
In partnership with the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) also organizes an event accompanying the meetings of the assembly on 'Building a legacy for sport and health after major sporting events' on May 23 in Geneva, during which lessons learned from Sport for Health Partnership at the World Cup FIFA Qatar 2022 will be reviewed, with the participation of host and organizers of major sporting events, beside athletes to share the expertise, advocacy and commitment to a sustainable global movement for sport and health.
HE Minister of Public Health and the delegation of the State of Qatar are participating in the WHO event the 'Walk the Talk: Health for All Challenge' on May 21 in Geneva, which includes a walk. The initiative aims to encourage people to be physically and psychologically active to support their health.
The delegation of Qatar also participates in a number of meetings and events accompanying the meetings of WHA, including the 59th session of the Arab Health Ministers' Council, which will be held on May 21 in Geneva, and discuss a number of important topics, most notably the health conditions in the occupied Palestinian territories, including Occupied East Jerusalem and the occupied Syrian Golan, Arab coordination for relief and humanitarian and health developments, and improving the health of mothers, children and adolescents in the Arab world. The meeting will be followed by the launch of the Arab Strategy for Health-Friendly Budget.
The delegation of Qatar will also participate in the ministerial briefing session for the Eastern Mediterranean Region, which will be held on May 20 in Geneva, and will present a summary of the most important items of WHA, in addition to two updates on emergencies in the region, and the polio eradication program in the Eastern Mediterranean Region.
