HE the President of the Qatar Olympic Committee Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani attended the competitions of boy schools of the 16th edition of the Schools Olympic Program (SOP), which were concluded at the Aspire Dome on Thursday.
The SOP boys' closing ceremony was also attended by HE the Minister of Education and Higher Education Buthaina bint Ali al-Jabr al-Nuaimi, HE the Secretary-General of Qatar Olympic Committee Jassim Rashid al-Buainain, HE Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Dr Ibrahim bin Saleh al-Nuaimi, HE President of the Qatar School Sports Association (QSSA) and Chairman of SOP Organizing Committee Sheikh Khalifa bin Khalid al-Thani.
The 16th edition of SOP has seen students competing in 11 sport disciplines, including football and basketball, volleyball, wrestling, gymnastics, athletics, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, hockey, and shooting. This year's edition brought together an amazingly big number of students, to prove that SOP has rounded the corner, going on the right path to promote the culture of sport, encouraging students to adopt healthy lifestyles in a way to join the national clubs and teams in the future, namely, in Asian Games Doha 2030.
HE the Vice-Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation Sheikha Hind bint Hamad al-Thani crowned the winners of girls events at the conclusion of the 16th SOP held at Al-Andalus Educational Complex in Lusail city. The first edition of SOP was launched during the school year 2007-2008 under the slogan (Sport and Health), as Qatar was the first-ever and a leading nation worldwide that adopted this program in its schools.
