The Protection and Social Rehabilitation Centre (AMAN), one of the centres of the Qatar Social Work Foundation, participated in the Consultative Seminar on Violence Against Women and Girls: Causes and Consequences.
Chaired by the chairperson of the Union of Kuwaiti Women Associations Sheikha Fadia Saad al-Abdullah al-Sabah, the seminar was held in Kuwait in co-operation with the Geneva Institute for Human Rights (GIHR) and the UN, with the attendance of UN Special Rapporteur on violence against women and girls, Reem Alsalem.
The consultative seminar was attended by representatives of non-governmental organisations working in the field of combating violence against women and girls, as well as the Resident Representative of the UN Development Programme in Kuwait, Hideko Hadzialic, and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights' (OHCHR) Regional Office, in addition to the UN Population Fund.
AMAN executive director Sheikh Dr Nasser bin Ahmed al-Thani participated in the consultative seminar.
During the seminar, Sheikh Dr Nasser presented AMAN’s experience in the field of social protection, highlighting its most important services for women such as raising awareness, offering women protection, rehabilitation and integration into society, and dedicating a hotline service (919), in addition to providing temporary shelter, and the Consult AMAN app dedicated to women.
This consultative seminar coincides with Union of Kuwaiti Women Associations' celebration of Kuwaiti Women's Day, falling on May 16 annually.
