Karwan-e-Urdu Qatar (KUQ), a local social-cultural Urdu organisation, is hosting its annual International Poetry Symposium, Mushaira, after a gap of three years at the DPS School Auditorium today at 7pm in which famous poets from India, Pakistan and Qatar will participate.
KUQ aims to promote the Urdu language and appreciate Urdu literary services. Each year, it presents a Life Time Achievement Award and a cash prize to a senior Urdu poet for his selfless contribution to the language and literature.
In past KUQ honoured famous poet Munawwar Rana, Rahat Indori ,Shehpar Rasool, Azhar Inayati and others. This year it is honouring one of the great Indian writers and poets Shiv Kishan Bissa, known as Sheen Kaaf Nizam, hailing from Jodhpur, Rajasthan. KUQ will celebrate Jashan E Sheen Kaaf Nizam and International Mushaira 2023.
Doha-based well-known businessman N A Nasser will also be bestowed with a lifetime achievement award for his selfless services and continuous efforts for the promotion of Urdu.
Meraj Haidar, a successful businessman and philanthropist from Lucknow, will be the chief guest. Famous poet and announcer Abrar Kashif will conduct the Mushaira and the poets from India and Pakistan attending the Mushaira include Sheen Kaaf Nezam (awardee), Aqeel Nomani, Nusrat Ateeq, Rahman Faris, Iqbal Ashhar, Tariq Qamar, Nausha Asrar and Abrar Kashif.
Poets representing Doha’s literary circle are Ateeq Anzar, Ejaz Haidar, Rashid Alam and Maqsood Anwar.
The chairperson of Karwan-e-Urdu Qatar, Azeem Abbas, its founder president Ateeq Anzar and general secretary Shahid Khan are the driving forces behind the poetic evening of eminence and enlightenment.
