Karwan-e-Urdu Qatar, a Doha-based literary organisation, held the Jashn-e-Sheen Kaaf Nizam and Aalami Mushaira 2023 on Friday, May 26, at the DPS MIS auditorium in Al Wakra.
Many well-known Urdu poets from Qatar, India and Pakistan participated in the ceremony. The poets brought to life the brilliance of Urdu poetry and captivated the audience with their couplets, ghazals, and nazms that spoke of beauty, love, peace, struggle and the purpose of life.
A large number of Urdu-speaking people who attended the gathering appreciated the poets for their acclaimed works.
Mohamed Shahid Khan, the general secretary of KUQ, welcomed the guests, while renowned poet, critic and writer Sheen Kaaf Nizam chaired the function.
N A Nasir was the guest of honour and Meraj Haidar, a philanthropist and successful businessman from Lucknow, India, was the chief guest of the grand international Mushaira.
Master Zaid Rahmatullah recited verses from the Glorious Qur’an.
KUQ chairman Azim Abbas delivered the official welcome address. He welcomed the local and guest poets from India and Pakistan, and thanked all executive members of KUQ for organising the event.
KUQ president Ateeq Anzar thanked the guests, the sponsors of the event and the volunteers for conducting the Mushaira successfully and audience for listening to each and every poet and guest attentively, patiently and maintaining decorum. He also spoke on the life and works of Sheen Kaaf Nizam.
Later, Karwan-e-Urdu Qatar, which works for the promotion of Urdu literature and poetry in Doha, presented mementos to the poets for their contribution to the promotion of the Urdu language and expanding its love and acceptance among the masses of the world.
A LifeTime Achievement Award was presented to Sheen Kaaf Nizam with a cash prize of Rs100,000 for his immense contribution to Urdu poetry and literature. A LifeTime Achievement award was also presented to N A Nasir for his continuous support and assistance for the promotion of Urdu.
Dr Neshat Ahmed Siddiqui shed light on the life and the achievements of Sheen Kaaf Nezam and his exemplary contributions in the promotion of Urdu literature.
The event also marked the launch of the Hindi version of Maqsood Anwar Maqsood’s collection of poetry entitled "Aasman To Hi Bata".
Abrar Kashif conducted the Mushaira in his unique style.
Poets included Sheen Kaaf Nizam from Jodhpur, Iqbal Ashhar from Delhi, Aqeel Nomani from Bareli, Rehman Faris from Lahore, Abrar Kashif from Maharashtra, Dr Tariq Qamar from Lucknow, Nusrat Ateeq from Gorakhpur, and local poets Ateeq Anzar, Maqsood Anwar Maqsood, Ijaz Heider, Dr Nadeem Jilani and Rashid Alam Rashid.
