LuLu Hypermarket, in association with the Ministry of Municipality, Monday, celebrated World Environment Day in a grand manner, showcasing its commitment to environmental sustainability.
The event at the LuLu Hypermarket D Ring Road branch, witnessed the planting of a tree by Mohammed Abdulla Mohammed, head of the Garden Section of Doha Municipality, and Shanavas P, regional manager of LuLu Hypermarkets in Qatar.
The tree planting activity was a part of the 'Plant Million Tree initiative.'
LuLu Hypermarket organised a special promotion, offering reusable bags to customers and distributing plants to further encourage the adoption of sustainable practices.
The students of Rajagiri Public School actively participated in the event, creating awareness about plastic pollution, and showcasing their dedication towards a cleaner environment.
During the event, the ministry official expressed admiration for LuLu Hypermarket's initiatives, particularly highlighting the impressive implementation of the reverse vending machines (RVMs) across 17 stores in Qatar. The RVMs promote recycling by encouraging customers to dispose of their plastic bottles responsibly, thereby fostering a circular economy.
Reflecting on the initiative, a senior official from the LuLu management said: “Our strategy is that at least by 2030 our carbon footprint should be reduced by 50%, and by 2050, we definitely want to become net-zero and to become carbon neutral”.
In line with the World Environment Day celebrations, LuLu Hypermarket also introduced a special promotion, "Buy 2 Get 1 Free" on reusable bags, encouraging customers to switch to eco-friendly alternatives and reduce their carbon footprint.
