In continuation of its efforts to support those affected by the earthquake that struck southern Turkiye and northern Syria on the February 6, Qatar Charity (QC), in co-operation with the municipality of Shahin Bey in the city of Gaziantep, distributed 6,500 personal hygiene kits among those who live in tents and caravans in several states of southern Turkiye.
The importance of these baskets, including hygiene materials and supplies, comes due to the urgent need for them for those living in residential communities that do not meet all health conditions such as camps and caravans, especially with the advent of the summer season, as they contribute to mitigating the spread of infectious diseases among the population.
Personal hygiene baskets were distributed to those affected in the targeted states and regions as follows: 1,500 baskets in Adiyaman province, 1,500 baskets in Malatya province, 500 baskets in Kahramanmara, 1,500 in Hatay, 750 in Gaziantep and Nordag, and 750 in Gazi Reformatory, Gaziantep.
In a statement, Fuad Aydoğan, who is in charge of the Baykar camp for caravans in Kahramanmaras, said: “The Baykar camp contains 512 caravans, and with the blessed efforts of the brothers in Qatar Charity and with the co-operation of the Shahin Bey municipality, we distributed these baskets to 2,500 beneficiaries.
"We thank the donors from Qatar, QC and the local authorities concerned with Turkiye for their efforts to cover the needs of the population with cleaning materials that are sufficient for the family for a full month."
Ercan Kilinc, project co-ordinator in the Shahin Bey municipality, said: “Epidemics did not spread in the earthquake areas despite the exceptional circumstances that we went through, but the importance of the project lies in this time because it coincides with the start of the summer season. Through this opportunity, I thank the municipality of Shahin Bey and the brothers in Qatar Charity for this important project."
This project is an extension of dozens of projects in which QC has supported those hit by the earthquake in all affected areas and in various sectors, a press statement notes.
Qatar Charity has distributed hundreds of bags containing clothes for children of affected families in Urfa and provided basic needs for more than 50 families in the affected areas in Turkiye. It has also provided shelter for 25 families affected in Ankara.
