Leading logistics provider GWC celebrated World Food Safety Day on June 7 as part of its “continuous endeavour to support this important cause”.
"GWC has always emphasised on very stringent food safety measures and its food safety policy focuses on compliance, training and competency development, communication and a strong food safety culture to ensure customer satisfaction," a press statement noted.
All the processes - from receiving, storage, picking until delivering - are performed as per the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) plan of the organisation.
With stringent controls in place to inspect each inbound product for temperature, evidence of pest activity, mold growth or physical damage, the company ensures that food is segregated by the date of expiry, and the condition and cleanliness of the pallets used for repalletising is up to standard.
“As a logistics and supply chain company, we understand the responsibility we have in ensuring that the food stays fresh and free of contamination at every step of the journey. The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates about 600mn cases of foodborne illness each year. This underlines the fact that food can become contaminated at any stage, from production through to transport and storage.
“Food safety is a shared responsibility; ensuring that it remains safe for consumption, requires a co-ordinated effort from all parties involved in the supply chain. GWC takes this very serious and through technological advancements and our state-of-the-art facilities, we have been able to be pioneers in this field,” said Elangovan Rajah, QHSSE director, GWC.
