Qatar participated in the 2nd session of the Assembly of the UN Human Settlements Program, which was held in Nairobi, Kenya, from June 5-9. The delegation included ambassador of the State of Qatar to Kenya Jabor bin Ali al-Dosari, Assistant Undersecretary for Urban Planning Affairs at the Ministry of Municipality Eng Fahad Mohamed al-Qahtani, and Director of the Infrastructure Programs Department at the Ministry Eng. Ibrahim Abbas.
In his speech, al-Dosari stressed the efforts made by Qatar to support the strategic framework for the housing sector in all its various fields, and the refugees in the affected cities, for a sustainable future for present and future generations. The Assembly discussed strategies related to sustainable urban development and its formulation at the global level.
The side events also dealt with several topics including the localization of sustainable development goals, adequate housing, urban resilience, challenges related to climate change in urban areas, and financing for sustainable urban development. The UN Human Settlements Program is an important platform for Member States and interested parties; with the aim of meeting and discussing sustainable urbanization strategies.
