As part of its efforts to combat the absconding of domestic workers and their engagement in unauthorised employment, the Search and Follow-up Department has apprehended 22 domestic maids from Asian countries, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said Sunday.
These apprehensions were made during inspection campaigns conducted in various areas, based on reported cases of absconding that were registered with the department, MoI said in a statement.
The primary objective of this campaign is to mitigate the risks associated with domestic workers fleeing and engaging in illicit employment with third parties, which often result in social risks and criminal activities, MoI added.
Additionally, it aims to minimize the financial losses incurred by employers and address violations of labor and residency regulations.
The Search and Follow-up Department has taken appropriate measures with the apprehended individuals and relevant parties. They have been referred to the Public Prosecution to initiate the necessary legal proceedings in accordance with the law, the statement by MoI said.
