The Investment and Trade Court has ordered an insurance company to pay QR3mn as compensation to a young Asian expatriate for the severe injuries she sustained in a road accident.
Local Arabic daily *Arrayah reported that the court was able to confirm that the person who ran over her with his vehicle was driving recklessly and posed risks to his own life and the lives of others on the public road at the time of the accident.
The accident left the victim, in her late 20s, several major fractures in her legs and the pelvis.
One leg was amputated due to the accident, which the court deemed to be a lasting and irreversible damage that would impact her for the rest of her life and would cause her difficulty in resuming daily activities.
Accordingly, the criminal court which reviewed the case at first ordered the motorist in collaboration with the insurance company to pay a preliminary compensation of QR100,000 and referred the case to the civil court concerned.
Eventually, the Investment and Trade Court issued its ruling based on the facts of the case.
