Malls, shopping centres, and other air-conditioned spaces have become the ultimate retreats for families and individuals seeking respite from the searing summer heat in Qatar, especially this Eid al-Adha holiday.
Offering a wide range of indoor entertainment, recreational activities, and shopping options during the festive season, it is learnt that these destinations have witnessed a surge in footfall since the beginning of June.
Amber T, a visitor from the Philippines, told Gulf Times that summer in Qatar “is not much of an issue for me since most of the places are air-conditioned and I love spending the day there with relatives and friends”.
“For me, going to the malls is a big treat, there are many different local and international restaurants, and coffee shops to choose from. I am enjoying my stay here this summer,” she said.
Many Qatar residents, meanwhile, embark on leisurely strolls and even engage in walking while looking for something to buy in a wide range of boutiques and shops during this season.
Retailers have capitalised on this trend by launching enticing promotions, discounts, and summer-themed activities to attract residents and tourists. High-demand items include summer apparel, shoes, accessories, and cooling products such as air conditioning units.
Other businesses also responded to the summer demand by introducing refreshing menu options and outdoor cooling solutions, providing customers with unique and delightful dining experiences.
The 21 High Street Katara offers guests an exquisite al fresco dining experience. It features a cutting-edge cooling system that ensures optimal comfort while indulging in coffee breaks and sumptuous meals.
“Aside from food and drinks, a pleasant temperature, particularly during this season (summer), is a big factor in attracting more customers,” said an employee of a coffee shop at 21 High Street Katara. “Due to the popularity of this place, we are expecting a huge number of people this Eid.”
Other air-conditioned spaces, such as the 50,000 sqm Al Gharafa Park, have enticed many residents and visitors to spend their afternoons and evenings outdoors without enduring the sweltering temperatures. This innovative park is renowned for its jogging and walking tracks equipped with cooling vents, maintaining a comfortable temperature ranging from 26 to 28 degrees Celsius.
Education City's 130,000 sqm Oxygen Park remains a summer favourite, delighting visitors with its lush greenery, welcoming ambiance, and air-conditioned pathways. Umm Al Seneem Park, the world's longest air-conditioned outdoor path, is another refuge for walkers, joggers, and fitness enthusiasts.
