While continuing its progress in security and safety indexes, Qatar has retained its first rank in the Mena region for the fifth consecutive year, in the Global Peace Index issued by the Institute of Economics and Peace, Australia.
In the 2023 report that covered 163 countries, Qatar ranked 21st globally, advancing its position from last year's 29th, according to a statement from the Ministry of Interior (MoI).
The Global Peace Index ranked Qatar in the Societal Safety and Security Indicator first among the Arab world and ninth out of 163 countries, making Qatar one of the ten safest countries in the world.
“Qatar continued its progress at the global level in security and safety, according to the Global Peace Index report, by achieving high ratings, which outperformed many countries,” the statement said.
According to figures released by MoI, Qatar has scored positively high in many indicators. In 2019, Qatar secured 31st position while it stood on 27th place in 2020. In 2021 and 2022, Qatar’s position was 29 and 22.
The Global Peace Index ranking is based on 23 indicators and measures the state of peace across different factors such as societal safety and security, domestic and international conflict and violent crime.
