As part of Qatar Reads' "One Book, One Society" campaign, Qatar National Library (QNL) has unveiled a new exhibition which delves into the captivating story of Hayy Bin Yaqdhan, and how he grew up alone on a deserted island. Discover the remarkable journey through a timeline depicting Hayy's life, while exploring versions of the book in English, Arabic and Dutch.
The exhibition symbolises man and his relationship to the universe and religion through philosophical implications. During his imprisonment, then Sheikh Shihab al-Din al-Suhrawardi rebuilt it, after which the Andalusian philosopher Ibn Tufail rewrote it. Then it was the last narration of the story by Ibn al-Nafis, who noticed some of the original contents of Ibn Sina’s narration, which did not agree with his doctrine, so he reformulated it to be a neighbourhood narration, Bin Yaqzan by Saleh Bin Kamel. During this exhibition, the participants will discover Hayy ibn Yaqzan’s wonderful journey through a timeline that depicts his life on that island, and enjoy seeing very old copies of this book in Arabic, English and Dutch, which are available in the holdings of the heritage library.
The exhibition continues until September 30, in the main foyer of the library, for the general public. It is an open event; reservation is not required.
