HE the Minister of Municipality Dr Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki al-Subaie, who is also Chairman of the National Committee to host the Expo 2023 Doha Horticultural Exhibition, met Wednesday with the visiting Secretary General of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) Dimitri Kerkentzes.
The meeting dealt with discussing Qatar's preparations for hosting of the exhibition, which is being held under the theme "Green Desert.. A Better Environment."
The BIE secretary-general expressed his appreciation for the ongoing preparations and expressed his confidence that the committee will organise a distinguished version of the exhibition in Qatar.
After the meeting, Kerkentzes inspected the mini pavilion of the expo at the Ministry of Municipality. He also had paid a visit to the location of the expo in the Corniche to follow up on the ongoing preparations.
Director of the Public Parks Department Eng Mohamed Ali al-Khouri, who is also the Secretary General of the Horticulture Doha Expo 2023, said that work is ongoing according to schedule at the site of the expo. He noted that the aim of hosting the expo, the first in a desert country, is to help all desert areas gain expertise by attracting the latest technologies in the field of preventing deforestation and to encourage people to take up agriculture.
He noted that the committee aims to have the expo ready to welcome the public by early September this year, ahead of the official launch on Oct 2. The expo will last six months and is expected to attract 3mn visitors from all over the world.
