The Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs, represented by the Mosques Department, has opened the Hessa bint Abdullah bin Omar Al-Fawzan Mosque in the Al Kheesah.
According to an official statement, the mosque is spread over an area of 3,039sq m and it can accommodate 360 worshippers. Also, the imam’s house is attached to the mosque.
The opening of the new mosque, according to the statement, comes within the framework of the Awqaf's plan to increase the number of mosques and develop them in all regions of the country. This is while keeping pace with urban growth and population increase in line with the country's National Vision 2030.
The new mosque (number MS438) has a main prayer hall that can accommodate 300 worshippers, and a women’s hall that can accommodate 60 worshippers.
The Department of Engineering Affairs at the Awqaf ministry is concerned with providing the needs of various regions for mosques and prayer grounds while providing temporary mosques and supervising their preservation. Also, the department prepares the annual plan for the maintenance of mosques and imams’ residences. These are in co-ordination with the competent authorities.
In mosque designs, the administration takes into account the features of the areas, the requirements for green buildings and sustainable buildings while focusing on the conditions for sustainability in the use of electricity and water. Also, the department preserves the aesthetics of heritage in designs that reflect the authenticity of Qatari and Islamic heritage in accordance with the highest standards.
The ministry's plans to build mosques also take into account the population density, engineering and architectural specifications and the heritage aspect.
