Empowering local creative talent by supporting mobile photography that captures the uniqueness of Qatar, Huawei Consumer Business Group (CBG), Tasweer Photo Festival Qatar by Qatar Museums (QM) and Fire Station: Artist in Residence recently joined forces in a collaborative project involving cutting-edge Huawei Xmage lens using HUAWEI P60 Pro.According to a statement from Huawei, Qatari photographers were able to use the HUAWEI P60 Pro, a smartphone that is considered a breakthrough in digital imaging, to take high-quality snaps of Qatar’s landscapes and iconic landmarks. A selection of these photos was showcased in a special exhibition organised at Fire Station: Artist in Residence at the Annex Gallery and is running from June 26 to July 9 depicting Qatari heritage and modernity. The exhibition saw the participation of Qatari photographers Asma al-Abdulla and Hassan al-Jaber, who were selected based on their portfolio of past images and evident talent in order to take snaps of a minimum of 10 different Qatari landscapes and landmarks each. By using the smart device, the shortlisted images taken by the Qatari photographers will compete for the Huawei’s XMAGE Awards 2023. This platform focuses on smartphone photographic excellence by sharing and celebrating stunning photos and videos taken with Huawei devices.Khalifa al-Obaidly, Director of Tasweer Photo Festival Qatar and Director of Fire Station: Artist in Residence, said the collaboration with Huawei is aligned with our objective to nurture artistic talent and to develop Qatar's arts economy and support creative industry, which is why QM established Tasweer Photo Festival Qatar in the first place."QM is dedicated to providing authentic cultural experiences through an expanding network of museums, heritage sites, public art, programmes and festivals, including Tasweer. We are delighted by Huawei’s creative support provided to talented photographers, as their images not only convey important stories but also serve as a reflection of and contribute to the preservation of Qatari heritage,” al-Obaidly noted.Asma al-Abdullah, a sports photographer participating in the event, embarked on her photography journey in 2009. She embraces therapeutic photography techniques to enhance mental health and to capture the beauty that her eyes perceive in everything around her. In 2018, she decided to specialize in sports photography, and in 2022 won the gold medal for Qatar in an international sports photography competition, held in Austria.Steven Li, President at Huawei Consumer Business Group Middle East Multi-Countries, said Huawei is committed to supporting and unlocking local talent by connecting them to digital technologies and opportunities."Through this project with our partners at Tasweer Photo Festival Qatar and Fire Station: Artist in Residence, we were able to bring together some of the nation’s most talented photographers and share with them how to leverage the power of the HUAWEI P60 Pro. Using this device, which is considered the best camera phone to get today in Qatar, is similar to carrying your own personal photo studio inside your pocket, and has a unique ability to capture images in the dark and zoom up close. Therefore, we decided that this would be the ideal device for local talent to capture what Qatar is all about,” he explained.Hassan al-Jaber was impressed by the reflection of light and beauty of shadows, especially when cast upon architectural structures. His lens captures his fascination with mixing natural synchronicity, shadows, and stillness. Throughout his journey, Hassan’s work moved towards monochrome photography, which allowed him to see the beauty of the world in different shades of grey. The HUAWEI P60 Pro has seen leading experts in imaging systems attest to its powerful camera capabilities. It has been crowned the best smartphone camera by DXOMARK, an established authority that conducts scientific tests on photography equipment, digital cameras, and smartphone camera systems. The phone scored a total of 156 points for its camera performance, surpassing the previous leader by three points. As Huawei continues to see the world through the lens of its smartphones, the HUAWEI P60 Pro is a powerful tool that allows users to experience and share the beauty of the world. So, whether you’re a budding photographer or a seasoned pro, the HUAWEI P60 Pro will elevate your photography game and let you ‘See the Unseen’.
