The Egyptian embassy in Doha marked the 71st anniversary of the July 23, 1952 revolution (Egyptian National Day) in the presence of senior Qatari officials, dignitaries, heads of diplomatic missions and a large number of guests and community members.
HE the Minister of Youth and Sport Saleh bin Ghanim al-Ali, HE the Minister of Environment and Climate Change Dr Faleh bin Nasser al-Thani, and Director of Protocols at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs HE Ibrahim Yousef Fakhro took part at the celebration.
Egyptian ambassador in Doha Amr El-Sherbini welcomed the guests and thanked them for taking part in the celebrations.
He said that the July 23, 1952 revolution has changed the reality of life in Egypt and constituted a new phase of national work.
The envoy added that the influence and objectives of the revolution spread throughout the entire Arab world at that time, giving inspiration to the peoples and motivating them to work towards independence and liberation.
"We are very happy to mark the 71st anniversary of July 23 revolution in Qatar, which has deeply rooted historical relations and bilateral co-operation with Egypt and as key player in enhancing Arab solidarity," El-Sherbini said.
He said that Qatari-Egyptian relations have witnessed quantum leaps in all fields, and are built on solid foundations that respond to the aspirations of the peoples of the two countries.
The envoy congratulated Qatar on the amazing success of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, and the successful hosting of The 5th United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5).
El-Sherbini said that Egypt is equally expecting success in the organisation of the International Horticultural Expo 2023 in Qatar (Expo 2023 Doha).
He noted that "the visits (by officials) at the top level that took place between Egypt and Qatar during past year, (including) the visit of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to Doha in November to attend the opening of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, and before that, his visit to Doha in September, and the visit of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani to Cairo in June last year, represented crucial steps on the path to strengthening our bilateral relations to serve the interests of the two countries”.
"The last few months witnessed as well visits by senior officials between Cairo and Doha, including, from the Egyptian side, the visit of the prime minister in February, in addition to the visits of the ministers of interior, justice, health, finance, economic development, trade and industry, youth and sports, international co-operation, social solidarity, and culture,” El-Sherbini said.
"The Political Consultation Committee between the ministries of foreign affairs of Egypt and Qatar held its second meeting this week in Doha, where both sides discussed the latest Arab and international developments and a number of issues of common concern,” he added. “The committee stressed the importance of enhancing joint efforts to overcome the challenges facing the Arab region."
The envoy pointed out that Qatar is among the top economic investors in Egypt, with investments in various sectors covering oil and gas, banking, tourism and hospitality and real estate, among others.
He said that he expects that these investments to increase over the upcoming period.
In addition, El-Sherbini said, the Joint Qatari-Egyptian Business Council has been reactivated with the aim of attaining enhanced bilateral relations and realising joint common interest.
He added that besides official relations, the two countries enjoy active cultural co-operation, with many Egyptian expatriates living in their second country, Qatar.
Accordingly, the ambassador wished both countries and their people and leaderships continued success and prosperity.
