The 8th Local Dates Festival at Souq Waqif is evoking a good response from the visitors who flock to Al Ahmed Square to buy dates at fair prices. General supervisor of the festival, Khaled Saif al-Suwaidi, told Qatar TV that this edition of the festival is different with the warm response from the buyers with an increase in sales.
The first three days of the festival, according to figures from the Ministry of Municipality, marked by a sale of 63 tonnes of dates. “During the first three days, the dates sales amounted to more than 63,066kg while 400kg of fruits were sold,” the statement said. On the third day, a total of 23,025kg of dates were sold while the sale of 133kg of fruits was recorded."
The festival, which runs until August 5, hosts 103 farms that sell 14 local varieties. Price starts at QR6/Kgm.
The festival receives the public daily from 3pm until 9pm, except for Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, when it is open until 10pm. Qatari varieties of dates including Al Khalas, Al Khenaizi, Al Shishi, Al Barhi, Al Saqai, Al Razizi, Nabt Saif and Al Lulu are on sale along with date syrup, juice and ice cream.
