The State of Qatar's National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) has participated in the 20th conference of the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions (ANNHRI), which kicked off in Egypt's capital Cairo, on Sunday.
The conference brings together 330 people representing 65 international and regional organisations and national institutions, government representatives, NGOs representatives and activists from the relevant stakeholders of partners, experts and consultants.
Entitled 'National Human Rights Institutions Established in Accordance with the Paris Principles, Roles and Challenges, Visions and Aspirations', the conference comes on the sidelines of the Doha-based ANNHRI's 20th General Assembly.
HE the Secretary General of ANNHRI Sultan bin Hassan Al Jamali said the conference would discuss the challenges and needs as well as the exchange of lessons and best practices, which will contribute to directing and developing ANNHRI's programs, in line with the aspirations of the member institutions, and their expected role nationally and internationally by promoting the universality and unity of the human rights process, in addition to opening prospects for cooperation and overcoming obstacles and challenges.
HE Al Jamali added that the conference seeks to strengthen cooperation with the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions, the Sub-Committee on Accreditation, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and other international bodies, as well as with government agencies, in addition to coordination and cooperation with trade unions, federations and national, regional and international NGOs.
HE Al Jamali highlighted ANNHRI's programs that seek to raise the level of cooperation with the ANNHRI's stakeholders and expand its target group to accommodate more government and NGO members.
The Chairperson of the National Council for Human Rights of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Ambassador Moushira Khattab said the conference comes at a very important time, as it coincides with the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and the 30th anniversary of the Paris Principles regulating the work of national human rights institutions.
Khattab hailed NHRC's great roles in hosting ANNHRI's General Secretariat, highlighting the ANNHRI's efforts to contribute to the exchange of expertise and capacity building with ANNHRI's member institutions.
