The sales at the 8th Local Dates Festival at Souq Waqif has crossed 83 tonnes on the first four days with buyers increasingly flocking to Al Ahmed Square to buy dates at fair prices. According to figures released by the Ministry of Municipality, 83,099kg of dates were sold while the sale of fruits stood at 510kg at the festival on the first four days.
On the fourth day, the festival marked the sale of 20023kg of dates and 133kg of fruits. The festival, which runs until August 5, hosts 103 farms that sell 14 local varieties. Price starts at QR6/Kgm.
The festival receives the public daily from 3pm until 9pm, except for Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, when it is open until 10pm. Qatari varieties of dates including Al Khalas, Al Khenaizi, Al Shishi, Al Barhi, Al Saqai, Al Razizi, Nabt Saif and Al Lulu are on sale along with date syrup, juice and ice cream.
